In a security incident that unfolded on Sunday night, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s Terminal 1 witnessed a temporary evacuation due to a reported bomb threat, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
At approximately 5:26 p.m., deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Airport District were alerted to a bomb threat at Terminal 1. In adherence to safety protocols, the upper level of the terminal was evacuated as authorities initiated an investigation into the reported threat.
As a consequence of the evacuation, departures from the terminal experienced delays lasting just over an hour. Despite the disruption, many travelers expressed gratitude for the prompt and thorough law enforcement response to ensure their safety.
Jadyna Seelye, a traveler impacted by the incident, shared, “I think some people may not make it to their flights, which is going to be very frustrating, and I hope everybody just calms down and deals with the situation properly.”
Amid the ongoing investigation, deputies took a man into custody for questioning. The situation is currently under scrutiny as authorities work to ascertain the credibility of the bomb threat and ensure the safety of the airport and its patrons.
